WORKER SOLIDARITY & EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT
This Employment Agreement (the "Agreement") is entered into and made effective as of [Effective Date], by and between First Man and Friends of Adam Cornelius (the "Campaign"), the authorized campaign committee for Adam Edward Cornelius (retired Corporate CPA and class-conscious candidate for 47th Ward Alderman in the City of Chicago, Illinois), and Leigh Giangreco (the "Worker").
RECITALS
WHEREAS, the Campaign is committed to a democratic, open-source municipal platform built on fiscal transparency, neighborhood infrastructure, and worker empowerment, actively resisting corporate influence and privatization; and
WHEREAS, the Campaign recognizes the vital labor value of the Worker and wishes to retain her professional, part-time services as a Campaign Strategist and Speech Writer, while explicitly rejecting exploitative corporate employment frameworks;
NOW, THEREFORE, in the spirit of labor solidarity and mutual benefit, the parties agree as follows:
1. POSITION, DUTIES, AND COOPERATIVE WORKER STATUS
- Part-Time Salaried Campaign Role: The Worker is employed as a part-time salaried Campaign Strategist and Speech Writer. The Worker will collaborate directly with the Candidate, Adam Edward Cornelius. Core responsibilities include authoring speeches that champion municipal audits, public oversight, and working-class advocacy, as well as managing the Campaign’s decentralized digital communication platforms.
- Explicit Concurrent Employment: In recognition of the Worker's broad contribution to advocacy and labor development across the city, it is explicitly acknowledged that she is a concurrent employee of the Chicago Public Schools Alumni PAC.
- Entity Tree Affiliation: Beyond the Chicago Public Schools Alumni PAC, the Worker is concurrently employed by the various organizations and progressive nodes identified explicitly in the entity tree included in the First Amendment to this Agreement.
- Hourly "Wardie" Labor Protection: The Worker may perform separate duties in the position of a "Wardie"—an hourly, tipped role—for a separate company within this shared cooperative network. To ensure the Worker captures the full value of her labor and to prevent corporate wage theft, she shall be compensated separately for all "Wardie" hours, provided they are tracked via the designated time-keeping system.
2. LABOR AUTONOMY, AT-WILL STATUS, AND FREEDOM FROM NON-COMPETES
- At-Will Status: Employment under this Agreement is strictly "at-will," meaning either the Worker or the Campaign may terminate this arrangement at any time, with or without cause or advance notice, in accordance with local and federal labor laws.
- Rejection of Corporate Monopolization: Because this is a part-time position, the Campaign explicitly rejects oppressive corporate non-compete practices. The Worker retains absolute autonomy to maintain concurrent outside employment, participate in mutual aid networks, engage in labor organizing, or actively search for alternative or higher-paying career opportunities at any time.
3. COMPENSATION, HOUSING INSULATION, AND TAX GROSS-UP
- Net Rent-Matching Base Salary: In an effort to insulate the Worker from predatory real estate exploitation and the commodification of housing, the Campaign guarantees a net base salary for the Campaign Strategist and Speech Writer role that directly equals the monthly cost of the Worker's housing, specified as $[Rent of Employee's Apartment] per month.
- Anti-Extraction Tax Gross-Up: This compensation is established on a strict net basis. The Campaign, through its designated paymaster, will fully calculate and absorb all employee-side payroll taxes. A grossed-up payment will be issued to ensure that all federal, state, and local income taxes, FICA, and Medicare obligations are fully covered, leaving the Worker with a net check that matches her rent to the exact penny.
- Common Paymaster: Pursuant to IRS regulations and Illinois law, Las Tavern is designated as the Common Paymaster for the Campaign, the Chicago Public Schools Alumni PAC, and the additional entities listed in the First Amendment entity tree. The Worker shall retain 100% of all tips earned in her "Wardie" capacity, processed transparently by the Common Paymaster.
4. BENEFITS, TOOL SHARING, AND GREEN TRANSIT
- Universal Health Coverage Placeholder: In alignment with progressive worker protections, once the health insurance program is formally initiated, the Worker will receive 100% health coverage with zero deductibles and no cost-sharing.
Declaration of Political Intent: The Campaign explicitly declares that comprehensive, zero-cost medical care is a human right that should be guaranteed to all people nationally under a system of socialized medicine (Medicare for All). Because the current capitalist state lacks this framework, the Campaign believes we must build the alternative starting locally.
- Company Laptop Allocation: The Worker is eligible for a company-issued laptop computer to facilitate remote campaign operations and democratic messaging design. The laptop remains the property of the Campaign collective and must be returned upon the termination of this contract.
- Google Hardware Provision: The Worker is eligible for a company cell phone or hardware stipend on the strict condition that the device is a Google phone. If a non-Google device is requested or utilized, the Worker is explicitly not eligible for a company cell phone or cell phone subsidy.
- Eco-Friendly Transit (Divvy Membership): To encourage green, de-commodified municipal transit and seamless movement across the 47th Ward grid, a standard Divvy bike-share membership is fully included in this agreement, to be activated immediately if the Worker wishes to opt-in.
5. SPECIFIC MATERIAL CONDITION OF ACCEPTANCE
- Subversion of Corporate Branding: The Worker's formal acceptance of this contract, and the subsequent activation of payroll obligations, is strictly conditional upon the subversion of dominant corporate aesthetics on her personal hardware.
- Sticker Procurement Mandate: The Worker must permanently obscure her current personal laptop's factory manufacturer logo using the specific physical sticker currently hidden at one of her favorite coffee shops to work at. The Worker must retrieve this sticker from its storage location inside the backgammon book on the bookshelf, located on the very first page of said book. Execution of this contract constitutes verification that this sticker has been claimed and applied.
6. CODE OF CONDUCT AND DIGITAL/MARITIME OPERATIONS
- Prohibition of Piracy: The Worker agrees to maintain high ethical standards in her communication and digital tactics. Unauthorized piracy is expressly forbidden as part of the Worker's campaign employment.
- Status of Privateering: The parties hereby acknowledge that privateering occupies a distinct grey area. While state-sanctioned digital privateering or letters-of-marque are not strictly outlawed under this clause, any such actions must not conflict with local law or the working-class municipal goals of the 47th Ward platform.
7. MUNICIPAL CONFORMANCE AND DEMOCRATIC DATA OWNERSHIP
- Open-Source Infrastructure: The Worker agrees to execute her duties transparently within the public-facing and internal digital workspaces, adhering to the data-tracking and open-source standards outlined on adam47.com. This ensures all campaign analytics serve the public good rather than private corporate interest.
- Strict Legal Compliance: The Worker agrees to perform all campaign activities in absolute compliance with the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA), the Illinois Election Code (10 ILCS 5/), the rules of the State Board of Elections (ISBE), and all Chicago municipal ordinances.
8. GOVERNING LAW AND SEVERABILITY
This Agreement shall be governed by, executed in, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois and the ordinances of the City of Chicago. If any provision of this Agreement is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
